About the service
Is The Grant Map really free for homeowners?
We currently charge homeowners no fee to use The Grant Map and do not take a share of grant funds. Revenue can come from contractor lead acceptance, data licensing, and clearly labeled sponsorship or affiliate relationships.
Do you take a percentage of grants I receive?
No. The Grant Map does not receive, hold, or disburse grant funds. You apply directly through the route the administrator currently confirms, and that administrator controls any award, payee, timing, and payment method.
Do you sell my personal data?
We do not sell personal-information lists or disclose your information for another party's marketing. See our Privacy Policy for the information we collect, the service providers that process it for us, and the one compensated disclosure: the contractor introduction included when contractor sharing remains checked for that submission. The form starts checked and you can uncheck it before submitting. Microsoft Clarity loads only after analytics consent; Google Analytics sends cookieless Consent Mode pings before consent and may use analytics cookies after consent. Every matching contractor listed in the directory for whom we have a usable business email may receive the contact-free offer, whether the listing is claimed or unclaimed, but exactly one eligible contractor may unlock your details. The first completed free-credit acceptance or finalized displayed payment closes the lead to everyone else. Nobody else is charged, uses a free credit, or receives your contact through The Grant Map.
Is The Grant Map available in Spanish?
Core homeowner discovery surfaces are available in Spanish at thegrantmap.com/es, including city and program views, screening, guides, and contact forms. The data buyer page and developer API guide also have Spanish twins. Some administration, contractor-account, or third-party surfaces may remain in English. Individual dataset fields have narrower language coverage described below. You can switch back to English at thegrantmap.com.
Finding grants
How do I know the data is current?
Stored cited URLs can receive bounded link checks when that operation is deliberately run, and separate fact reviews can occur, but details are not refreshed continuously: funding runs out, income limits move, and deadlines shift. A resolving link proves only that the URL responded. It does not confirm the program identity, amount, status, deadline, funding, or application route, and a cited URL can be a general agency page. An Unknown funding status means we have not confirmed current availability; it does not mean funding is open. We cannot guarantee that every record is current, so confirm material facts directly with the administering organization before making decisions.
What does "Local help" mean on a city page?
A named city, metro, or state provider appears there only when the city's repair-assistance catalog also has a probable card for the same provider and named service; a shared website or link alone is not enough. Curated national or explicitly reviewed state locator links may appear without a matching card because their purpose is to help identify the office serving an address. A link or card is still a possible research lead, not proof of service area, open intake, eligibility, funding, an amount, or an award. Purchase-only and down-payment records are outside the public home-repair surface and cannot qualify a provider for this section.
Can I use multiple programs on the same project?
Sometimes, but never assume it. Each administrator decides whether another grant, rebate, loan, tax credit, insurance payment, or other benefit can cover the same work. Confirm eligible costs, payment timing, and coordination rules with every administrator before you build a budget or sign a contract.
What counts as a "home improvement" grant?
We focus on assistance for repairing or improving an existing home, including roof repair, windows, HVAC, insulation, lead abatement, accessibility modifications, emergency repairs, solar, weatherization, and historic preservation. We do not present down-payment assistance, rental assistance, general utility-bill relief, tax preparation, or unrelated benefits as home-repair programs.
What if my city is not listed?
Coverage changes as we research and update records. If you need a city we do not have yet, email support@thegrantmap.com with the city name. Requests help set the research queue.
Can I get an email when programs in my city change?
City pages offer alerts. If a deliberately run record check detects a relevant opening, closure, deadline, funding-status change, or correction to a stored amount, we may email subscribers for that city. Detection and delivery are not guaranteed, so continue checking with administrators. Alert emails include an unsubscribe link.
Applying for grants
Does The Grant Map submit applications for me?
No. Applications, where offered, go through the administering organization. We show published details, screen possible matches, and provide the cited source on file, which may be a general agency page. Only the administrator can confirm eligibility, current funding, an award amount, or a completed application.
What application-preparation help is available?
A program detail page may show a curated official form link, filing steps, researched document guidance, and a printable preparation checklist. When the site has no program-specific document evidence, a general checklist is labeled and should be treated only as planning examples. Confirm the current form, required documents, deadline, funding, and submission route directly with the administrator. See the application-preparation guide.
Can The Grant Map prefill an official PDF?
Only in narrow, reviewed cases. An official PDF must be in the safe-prefill registry with an explicit map of permitted fields. Sensitive fields, signatures, dates, and every unmapped field remain blank. You review, finish, sign, and submit the form yourself; The Grant Map never auto-submits it.
Should I upload or send sensitive documents to The Grant Map?
No. Keep Social Security numbers, bank details, tax returns, benefit letters, medical records, income documents, signatures, and document images out of public site forms and Journey notes. Use the administrator's confirmed secure process for any required evidence.
Can I track my applications somewhere?
Yes. The Grant Journey tracker stores a device-local organizer without requiring sign-in. If you sign in, My Grant Map also brings together your submissions, current recomputed matches, saved programs and contractors, and application-organizer states for preparing, submitted, and decision.
Signing in
Do I need a password?
No. We don't use passwords. When you go to sign in, we email a one-time link that expires in 15 minutes. Open it to review the request, then explicitly choose Sign in; merely opening the link does not create a session. Afterward you can set up a passkey (Face ID, Touch ID, or Windows Hello).
Do I need an account just to find grants?
No. Browsing programs and using the Journey tracker works without signing in. Homeowners can optionally sign in to use My Grant Map. An account is required to manage a contractor profile and its private dashboard. Prospective partners submit an inquiry for manual review; there is no self-service partner dashboard.
Getting matched with contractors
How does contractor matching work?
Contractor sharing starts checked so we can route your request. Uncheck it before submitting for program information only; that submission creates no contractor offer. If you leave it checked and the project passes routing checks, every matching directory listing with a usable business email may receive the same contact-free offer, whether claimed or unclaimed. Routing and delivery are not guaranteed.
The offer may include the city, repair category or trade, and possible-program context. It never includes your name, email, property address, or free-text description. Receiving or opening an offer, claiming, and activation do not unlock contact.
Exactly one eligible contractor may unlock contact. The contractor must explicitly accept and finish first with an available free credit or a finalized displayed payment. Some eligible offers sent to an unclaimed listing allow acceptance from the emailed review before account setup; other offers require claim and sign-in. The lead then closes to everyone else. Nobody else is charged, uses a free credit, or receives your contact through The Grant Map. The contractor who unlocks may email you directly; we never negotiate or schedule on your behalf.
Will every project get matched?
Every usable business email for a matching directory listing may receive the contact-free offer, including an unclaimed seed, but routing, delivery, claiming, and contact are not guaranteed. A completed introduction still requires one eligible contractor to explicitly accept and finalize first. Some unclaimed-listing offers allow that action from the emailed review before account setup; other offers require claim and sign-in. Whether or not that happens, the city form shows your program-screening outcome immediately on the page. You can review those program records and contact contractors independently. Program-screening results are separate from contractor matching, and the program administrator still decides eligibility.
What does it cost me to be matched?
The current homeowner fee for matching is $0. Contractors may pay for leads they accept.
Success stories
Where do homeowner stories come from?
A story can only be submitted through a one-time invitation tied to a real request or contractor-recorded project outcome. We review it before publication and show only the approved display name and city. The story and outcome remain the submitter's report; moderation is not independent proof of funding, contractor performance, or completed work. We do not invent testimonials. Contractor reviews use the same invitation and moderation path and are not public at this time.
Contractors
Are contractors on your site endorsed or vetted by you?
Being listed is not an endorsement. We do not independently verify a contractor's work quality, licensing, or insurance, and inclusion is not a recommendation. The "Profile reviewed" label is The Grant Map's label after manual review of information on a claimed profile; it is not a government approval or guarantee. Unclaimed public-record listings never carry it. Verify license, insurance, references, and fit before hiring.
Why am I listed as a contractor when I never signed up?
To give homeowners coverage while the directory grows, we create some listings from publicly available business records. If that is you, your listing is marked "unclaimed" and shows minimized business-level information. After a homeowner expressly requests contractor routing, a matching unclaimed listing with a usable business email may receive a contact-free project offer with bounded city, trade, and possible-program context, but never the homeowner's name, contact information, property address, or free-text description. Receiving the offer or claiming does not unlock contact. Claiming is free and email-only: a requested link sent to the usable public business email on file verifies control of that email, not business ownership, licensing, insurance, or quality. A listing without a usable public business email is not claimable today; there is no text-code or manual claim path. After email proof, a listing with all required profile fields complete and no duplicate or contact-revalidation flag activates automatically. If something is missing, the dashboard identifies it. Claiming or activation does not grant a badge or a contact entitlement, and we can suspend or remove a listing at any time. You can email support@thegrantmap.com to correct or remove a listing.
What is the difference between a claimed and an unclaimed listing?
An unclaimed listing was built from public records, is labeled "not yet verified," and carries no "Profile reviewed" label. With a homeowner's request-specific sharing choice, a matching claimed or unclaimed listing with a usable business email may receive the same contact-free offer, but never the homeowner's contact details, property address, or free-text. A claimed listing has a submitted claim after a link sent to its usable public business email verified control of that email; that alone does not verify ownership, licensing, insurance, or quality and does not unlock contact. Contact goes only to the first eligible contractor to complete an explicit acceptance with an available free credit or a finalized displayed payment. An eligible unclaimed listing may do that from the emailed review before creating an account; contact is then sent only to the listing inbox. Browser access requires the account linked to that listing. Other offers require the contractor to claim, satisfy account requirements, and sign in before accepting.
I am a contractor. How do I get listed and what does it cost?
Listing and claiming are free and require no card. Apply at /for-contractors (or claim an existing listing that has a usable public business email on file). A new application sends a confirmation link to its account email. After that address is verified, a complete application that passes duplicate and abuse checks activates automatically. An email-verified claim of an existing public-record listing also activates automatically when its required profile fields are complete and its checks pass. A listing without a usable public business email is not claimable today. A listing that does not yet pass shows what is missing in its dashboard. The first accepted compatible lead can use a free credit. Paid leads that pass the sellability checks range from $20 to $500. The exact one-time price is shown before acceptance and reflects the job, its scope, the local market, and lead quality. A lead with insufficient core information is not sold at a lower price. There is no lead subscription or directory charge.
How do leads get to me?
Every offer starts without the homeowner's name, email, address, or free-text description. Your first accepted compatible lead can use an available free credit. Review the offer and its exact price before accepting. Some offers sent to an eligible unclaimed business listing let you accept from the emailed review before setting up an account; other offers require sign-in. Opening the email never accepts a lead. Only the first completed acceptance receives contact. A paid offer completes only after its displayed charge finalizes. Contact from an email-first acceptance is sent only to the listing email, and viewing it in the browser still requires the account linked to that listing. Ignoring any offer costs nothing.
Can I claim a contractor listing by text message?
No. Listing possession proof is email-only, and The Grant Map does not send text claim codes. A public-record listing without a usable public business email on file is not claimable today. The separate legacy SMS compliance boundary continues to honor STOP, START, and HELP; it is not a claim path. For help or to record an account-level opt-out, email support@thegrantmap.com.
Where do I manage my listing and see my leads?
Sign in at /contractor-dashboard with the email you used to register. You can update your name, business, phone, and experience, review current offers, and manage accepted leads. Expired, never-accepted offers may no longer appear.
Data and partnership questions
The public API is for program research, not applicant files, homeowner profiles, or contractor leads. A public sample does not create a production license.
Read the developer guide for coverage, schemas, citations, language fields, licensing, privacy, delivery options, and support limits. Organizations can begin with the data page.
Report wrong program information
Use Contact and Support. Include the page URL, the detail that appears wrong, and an official source that shows the correction. Do not send applicant files or sensitive personal information. A report is reviewed before any edit; a response or publication time is not guaranteed.
Still have a question?
Email support@thegrantmap.com or use the contact form. Questions can be reviewed and may receive a source-based answer, but a response and timing are not guaranteed. Do not use the site for emergencies.
